An iMac that shows nothing at all when you switch it on looks terminal, and the quote that usually follows is for a new logic board. On a desktop that quote often lands close to the price of a replacement machine.
What we check first
A black screen points at the backlight, the display cable or the power supply just as often as it points at the main board, and on most iMac models all of those are separate parts. They get tested before anyone opens a board-level conversation.
When it is the board
