The problem
The owner dropped the machine and the display took the whole impact. The panel still lit up, but the glass had spidered across the full width and the LCD underneath was bleeding colour and showing vertical lines. The laptop was unusable for work.
The rest of the machine was fine. Keyboard, trackpad, ports and battery all tested clean, which is normal with a straight drop onto the screen.
Why it cost less here
An authorised route usually replaces the entire display assembly as one sealed unit, and on recent MacBook Air models that often means the top case with it. That is why official quotes for a cracked screen run so high.
We replace the display on its own and reuse the housing, hinges and cables that are still good. Same result on the desk, a fraction of the bill.
What we did
- Free diagnosis. Confirmed the damage was limited to the display and ran a full board and battery check before quoting.
- Fixed quote. Price and turnaround agreed with the owner before anything was opened.
- Display replacement. Old panel removed, housing cleaned, new display fitted and cables reseated.
- Full test. Brightness, True Tone, camera, sensors, hinge travel and lid close all checked, not just the screen.
- Returned boxed. Handed back with the charger, the invoice and the 12 month warranty in writing.
The result
The machine went back to full working condition in two days, with no cosmetic marks on the housing and no loss of data. Colour, brightness and touch response all match the original panel.
