The problem
A drop onto a hard floor took the back glass. The panel had spidered across the whole rear of the phone and glass was lifting near the camera bump, which makes it sharp to hold and easy to catch on a pocket.
Everything else tested clean. Screen, cameras, charging, battery and Face ID were all working, which is normal when only the back takes the impact.
Why this one is not simple
On iPhone 8 and later the rear glass is bonded to the frame with strong adhesive. It does not lift off in one piece. Removing it means clearing the old glass and adhesive without damaging the wireless charging coil or the antenna lines sitting directly underneath.
That is why an authorised route usually replaces the entire housing and quotes accordingly. We separate the glass, clean the frame and bond a new panel to the same body, so the phone keeps its own frame and its own parts.
What we did
- Free diagnosis. Confirmed the damage was limited to the display and checked the board, battery and Face ID before quoting.
- Fixed quote. Price and turnaround agreed with the owner before the phone was opened.
- Rear glass replacement. Old glass separated and lifted, frame cleared of adhesive, wireless charging coil and antenna checked, new panel bonded and left to cure.
- Full test. Wireless charging, MagSafe, cameras, flash, buttons and the seal around the frame, not just how the glass looks.
- Handed back with paperwork. Invoice and warranty terms in writing.
The result
The phone went back looking like new, with wireless charging and MagSafe working normally and no marks on the stainless frame. No data was touched at any point, because this repair never goes near the storage.
