iMac Keyboard Repair and Replacement in Bangalore

The iMac keyboard is a separate device rather than part of the machine, which is good news. It means a keyboard problem almost never involves opening the iMac itself, and the repair is usually quick and affordable.

It also means there are really two different problems hiding under one complaint. Either the keyboard hardware has failed, or the connection between it and the iMac has. Those need completely different fixes, and telling them apart takes about a minute.

What is going wrong

The first few here point at hardware. The later ones usually point at pairing or charging.

  • One or a few keys do nothing, or need a hard press
  • A key repeats characters when you press it once
  • Keys feel sticky or gritty after a spill
  • The whole keyboard stops responding at random
  • It will not pair with the iMac at all
  • It disconnects every few minutes and reconnects
  • It will not charge, or the charge lasts hours instead of weeks
  • A wired keyboard is not recognised on any USB port

Why keyboards fail

Spills are the commonest cause by a distance. Tea, coffee and water get under the keys, dry, and leave a residue that either blocks the key travel or bridges the contacts. A bridged contact is what causes a key to repeat on its own. Acting quickly matters here, because a keyboard cleaned within a day or two usually survives and one left for a month often does not.

Dust and crumbs cause the same symptoms more slowly. The gap under each key collects debris, and eventually the key stops making proper contact. This is the easiest fault to fix and the cheapest.

For a Magic Keyboard that will not charge, the usual suspects are the charging port, the cable, or a battery that has simply reached the end of its life after several years. These batteries are not designed to be swapped by the owner, which is why we open them.

Pairing problems are often not the keyboard at all. Stored Bluetooth pairings get corrupted, or the iMac has too many devices remembered. That is a free fix and worth ruling out before anybody buys anything.

What we do

The cheap checks come first, and for keyboards a surprising number of visits end there.

  1. Test on another machine. Connecting the keyboard to a different Mac tells us instantly whether the fault is the keyboard or the iMac. That takes a minute and it changes the whole direction of the repair.
  2. Pairing and Bluetooth reset. Clearing stored pairings and reconnecting properly. This fixes a genuine share of dropouts at no parts cost.
  3. Cleaning. Keycaps removed where the design allows and the residue cleaned out. After a spill this is often all that is needed if it is done soon enough.
  4. Battery or port repair. For a Magic Keyboard that will not hold charge, opening it up and replacing the cell or repairing the charging port.
  5. Replacement where it makes sense. On a badly corroded keyboard we will tell you plainly that a replacement costs less than the repair. That happens and we would rather say it.

Cost

Keyboard work is at the affordable end of what we do. The one thing to be realistic about is that a Magic Keyboard soaked in liquid and left for a month is sometimes beyond economic repair.

We will always compare the repair cost against a replacement and tell you which we would choose.

Job Time needed
Bluetooth pairing fix Same day, usually while you wait
Cleaning after a spill Same day
Individual key repair Same day
Magic Keyboard battery replacement 1 to 2 days
Charging port repair 1 to 2 days

Parts and warranty

Twelve month warranty on parts and work. Cleaning after a spill is not warranted, because we cannot promise what the liquid already did to the circuitry underneath.

If we think a repair will not last, we will say so before taking your money rather than after.

Why bring your iMac to us

We tell you when replacing is cheaper than repairing. On an accessory that costs what a Magic Keyboard costs, that conversation is worth having honestly, and not everybody has it.

Free diagnosis, free collection anywhere in Bangalore, genuine parts and twelve months of cover on anything we fit.

Questions people ask

I spilled something on it. What should I do right now?

Turn it off, turn it upside down so the liquid runs out rather than further in, and do not use a hairdryer on it. Then bring it in quickly. A keyboard seen within a day or two usually survives. One left for a month often does not.

One key types the same letter over and over. Why?

Residue under the key is bridging the contact, so the keyboard reads it as being held down. Cleaning normally sorts it out and it is one of the cheaper jobs here.

My keyboard keeps disconnecting. Is it broken?

Often not. Corrupted Bluetooth pairings and a long list of remembered devices cause exactly this. We clear and re-pair it properly first, which costs nothing in parts.

Can the battery in a Magic Keyboard be replaced?

Yes, though it is not designed for owner replacement, so it needs opening carefully. If yours lasts hours instead of weeks, the cell has reached the end of its life and it is worth doing.

Is it the keyboard or the iMac?

We plug it into another Mac and find out in under a minute. If it works there, the fault is on the iMac side, which is a different repair entirely.

Do you repair the older wired aluminium keyboards?

Yes. They are actually easier to work on than the wireless ones and they are worth keeping going. Cable and port faults on those are usually straightforward.

Book it in

If liquid has gone into it, bring it in this week rather than next month. That single decision usually settles whether the keyboard can be saved or not.
